SEC 1 Player Introduction & Biography

Brian Charles Lara, widely known as 'The Prince of Trinidad', is regarded as one of the most gifted, graceful, and dominant batsmen in cricket history. Armed with a high backlift, quick feet, and ferocious strokeplay, Lara holds the unique distinction of holding the record for both the highest individual score in Test cricket (400*) and First-Class cricket (501*).

Breaking World Records Twice

Born on 2 May 1969 in Santa Cruz, Trinidad, Lara broke Sir Garry Sobers' 36-year-old Test record in 1994 when he scored 375 against England at Antigua. Just weeks later, he scored 501* for Warwickshire against Durham. In 2004, after Matthew Hayden briefly claimed the Test record, Lara reclaimed it at the same venue by bludgeoning 400* against England.
