SEC 1 Player Introduction & Biography

Sunil Manohar Gavaskar, known as the 'Little Master' and 'Sunny', was the original batting idol of Indian cricket and arguably the greatest opening batsman against genuine fast bowling. Standing at just 5 feet 5 inches, Gavaskar faced ferocious West Indian pace quartets of Roberts, Holding, Garner, and Croft without a helmet, exhibiting flawless technique, concentration, and courage.

Historic Debut & 10,000 Test Runs

In his debut Test series against the West Indies in 1971, Gavaskar scored a staggering 774 runs, helping India to its maiden series victory in the Caribbean. In March 1987, Gavaskar became the first player in world cricket history to breach the mythical 10,000 Test runs landmark against Pakistan at Ahmedabad.
